  Originally 6000 acres granted to residents of Braintree, the village of "Braintree Farms" was enlarged by the addition of tracts formerly of Brookfield and Hardwick and in 1751 was incorporated as "New Braintree."  Previously occupied by a large contingent of Native Americans, the area became noted for its good farmers, and bountiful harvests.

   By the late 18th century, New Braintree was shipping its annual production of dairy products, cheese and beef to Boston and had attained a high degree of prosperity. Over 1,000 milk cows lived in New Braintree by the 19th century and the town produced over 200,000 pounds of cheese annually. Townspeople made shoes, built carriages and made spoke shaves.

 DOG LICENSES ARE PAST DUE.   PLEASE SEE THE TOWN CLERK OR OBTAIN AN APPLICATION AT THE TOWN HALL FOR A RETURN LICENSE BY MAIL.
FIRST QUARTER REAL ESTATE TAXES DUE AUGUST 1, 2008
Any overdue Taxes may be paid at the Town Hall  or to the Deputy Collector.

The Tri-Parish Community Church is hosting the Third Annual Harvest Gourmet Dinner and Silent Auction at the New Braintree Town Hall on Saturday, September 6th.  Don't miss this very special event--local foods deliciously prepared by several different area chefs and served in a romantic atmosphere of white lights and soft music!!  Call 413-477-6375 for reservations.

 

 

 

 

 The Board of Selectmen's Office will be closed for vacation the week of August 25, 2008 through Labor Day.  It will reopen on Tuesday, September 2, at 8:00 a.m.

There will be a meeting of the Board of Selectmen, however, on Monday evening, August 25th.

New Braintree needs a third Selectman.  If you would be willing to run for the position, please contact Jess Bennett, the Town Clerk, at 508-867-4952, to obtain the appropriate paperwork.  The term will run until the annual Town Election in May of 2009 at which time the successful incumbent could choose to run again for a full three-year term.
